新潟弁の着信メッセージ A Ringtone in Niigata Dialect

★English translation

Hi everyone! Do you know what a ringtone (chaku-mero) is? On most cell phones today, this 'tone' isn't just a single sound, you can set it to play songs, et cetera. Apparently, a lot of young people in Japan enjoy changing these tones into various sounds. On my friend's phone, instead of a melody or song, she had set the incoming message tone to say an actual message. And it was in the Niigata dialect no less!!

It said, “Omesan! Denwa rayo. Hayo de,” which in standard Japanese would be, “Anata, denwa ga natteimasu yo. Hayaku denasai,” or in English as, “Your phone is ringing. Hurry up and answer it.”

If you are interested in the Niigata dialect, take a listen to this podcast.
