招き猫 Good luck cat

皆さんの国にも「招き猫」がありますか。
「招き猫」とは“福を招く”とされる猫の置物です。
右脚を挙げている猫は金運を、左脚を挙げている猫は人（客）を招くとされています。両脚を 挙げたものもありますが、“欲張り過ぎると「お手上げ万歳」になるのが落ち”と嫌う人 が多いそうです。一般には写真（右）の様に三毛猫ですが、近年では、伝統的な白や赤、黒の他に、ピンクや青、金色の物もあり、『交通安全』（青）、『恋愛』など、意味が違います。
アメリカへの輸出用にも作られていますが、これらは手が日本のものとは逆で、手の甲に当たる部分(ぶぶん)を前に向けているそうです。これは 手招きする手のジェスチャーが、日本とアメリカでは違うからだそうです。同じ置物でも国によってちがうなんて、面白いですね。

Do you have Mane Neko or other good luck ornamentsin your country ?

A Mane Neko is an ornament in the shape of a cat which invites or calls good luck..
It is generally believed that cats which have their right leg up are bringers of good luck with money , cats with their left legs upbring in many customers.There are some cats that have both legs up, but many people don't like these because they have an image of being greedy cats and there is a punchline that this type of cat is raising his hands as a sign of giving up.

The standard cat is usually like the one in the picture, a cat with three colors but in recent years there are other colors other than the traditional white ; there are also red cats, black ones, pink ones, blue ones, gold colored and other colors too. The blue one's indicate luck and safety with traffic, pink ones invite love etc each of them have different meanings.

There are some which are made for export to America which have the opposite hand postions. Apparently the back of the hand is facing upwards .This is because the hand gesture to invite or call is different in America to Japan .It is interesting how the same ornaments for different countries can be so different isn't it ?
